Sportrock Climbing Centers is a chain of climbing gyms in the Northern Virginia area. Sportrock started working with HARNESS in 2017 after reading an article we wrote for the Climbing Business Journal. Impressed by our marketing expertise, the gym’s internal marketing team felt we greatly complemented their current efforts. Sportrock President Lillian Chao-Quinlan was initially hesitant because of our unique marketing process. She wasn’t confident that video marketing and content like blogs would get the desired results. However, her team convinced her because they needed the help. They were far too many hats (as is all too familiar in climbing gyms). Now, she will be more than happy to tell you she is no longer a skeptic! One of the things that Lillian always said was that she loved that HARNESS was a constant in her business. Young marketing directors would come and go from her organization, but HARNESS was always there to help her train the next marketing employee and get them up to speed.

At Harness Consulting, we implemented a range of marketing strategies and tactics to help our climbing gym client achieve their goals. By combining targeted online advertising, engaging social media campaigns, and community partnerships, we were able to drive brand awareness, increase membership sign-ups, and boost overall revenue.

Sportrock started working with Harness in 2017. Over 5+ years, Harness Consulting and Sportrock’s internal marketing team transformed the way in which we deliver our story, communicate our brand, and connect with the community. In the beginning, we needed a comprehensive marketing plan. Clay and his team took the time to visit our locations, learn about our company, and then create a 12-month strategic plan that was rooted in data, analytics, and best practices. Over the years, we shifted to an a-la-carte model where Harness Consulting assisted us with a website redesign and consulting on an as-needed basis. This tailored approach was valuable to us as we did not feel “locked in” to a specific type of service or plan. Consulting meetings were scheduled at our request and regular analytics reporting were essential to elevating our overall marketing. Having Harness Consulting as the foundation of our marketing team also provided consistency for the periods when our internal team turned over. For some companies, marketing can seem a bit nebulous but working with Harness Consulting enabled us to establish a concrete, measurable marketing plan which in turn increased brand awareness, connect more intentionally with our existing community, expand our network of climbers, and increase profit for our company.
